Colección Museográfica de Cártama. Catálogo de la Colección Expositiva

Last December, the Consejería de Turismo, Cultura y Deporte de la Junta de Andalucía and the Ayuntamiento de Cártama (Málaga) published the book Colección Museográfica de Cártama. Catálogo de la Colección Expositiva, which includes an inventory of the 197 archaeological objects that make up the permanent exhibition of this collection managed by the Ayuntamiento de Cártama. The occupation of the municipal territory has been documented since the Lower Paleolithic Age, but the most important archaeological remains are located in the urban center of Cártama: a first protohistoric settlement from the 8th century BC that evolved into the Iberian and Roman city of Cartima, which has survived to the present day. The result of this long historical survival are the discoveries that have been produced in the city over the years and that are presented in this catalogue raisonné. Directed by Dr. Francisco Melero García, 24 specialists from various research institutions in Andalusia and the rest of Spain participated in the drafting of the 122 files containing the 197 annotated pieces. Of a particular note are the Attic red-figure pottery examples from the funerary trousseau of the La Longuera necropolis, including the bell krater from the workshop of the Toya Painter (350-325 BC), depicting symposium and conversation scenes, and the bell krater from the workshop of the Telos Painter Group (375-325 BC), depicting mythological and conversation scenes.
