On October 14, an academic and commemorative event will be held at the headquarters of the l’Institut Català d’Arqueologia Clàssica to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Institute’s creation. This was born in 2002 and on September 26, 2003 it opened its doors in the old Forum market building located in the Plaça d’en Rovellat in Tarragona. The ICAC is a public centre for classical archaeology research established by the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, with the participation of the Interuniversity Council of Catalunya. Its purpose is research, advanced training and the disseminate Classical civilisation and culture. Among its research teams is the “Greco-Roman Eastern Mediterranean Research Team” which works on the organisation of space and its symbology in the Eastern Mediterranean during the Greco-Roman period, especially in Greece and the closest geographical areas.
Throughout these 20 years, the ICAC has developed an excellent archaeological research activity and has established itself internationally as one of the most prestigious archaeological centres in Spain. Our congratulations to the ICAC for this anniversary with our best wishes for the next 20 years.
