Published Volume 8 of the Journal of Greek Archaeology

Last December, Volume 8 of the Journal of Greek Archaeology (JGA), corresponding to the year 2023, was published, dedicated to the memory of Professor Andrew Stewart (1948-2023), specialist in Greek art and lecturer in the History of Art Department at University of Berkeley until his retirement. The issue begins with an interesting biographical and academic note on Professor Stewart made by his colleague Dr. Tonio Hölscher, Emeritus Professor at the Institute of Classical Archaeology at the University of Heidelberg. Next, 12 articles on Archaeology of Greece, Crete, Cyprus and Sicily are presented, covering a broad historical period, from the Chalcolithic to the Medieval Age, with notable works by Oscar Belvedere, “Houses, convivial meals and tableware at Himera in the 5th century BC” and by Maria Panagiotonakou “Reassessing evidence: a new proposal for the dating of the theatre of Segesta”. Also noteworthy is the article “Geoarchaeological evidence of landscape degradation in the Valley of the Muses (Boeotia, Greece) during classical antiquity”, carried out by José Luis Peña-Monné (Universidad de Zaragoza) and María Marta Sampietro-Vattuone (Universidad Nacional de Tucumán). The volume, edited by Professor John Bintliff of the University of Leiden, ends with 18 reviews of various publications related to Greek Archaeology.
