Volume 9 of the Journal of Greek Archaeology (JGA) was published in December 2024. This is a special edition, as it includes in addition to the traditional sections of the Serie, a first part containing the proceedings of the workshop held at the British School of Athens on March 30, 2023, on the use Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in archaeological surveys and excavations. It comprises 12 papers that address both theoretical topics on the use of GIS and the presentation of results obtained through its application at sites in Greece (Sikyon, Samos, and o Knossos), Jordan, and Cyprus.
The second part maintained the usual structure of the JGA. The “Prehistory and Protohistory” section contained six articles (including an interesting work on hunting scenes in the Mycenaean paintings by Massimilano Carbonari, Sofia Voutsaki and Jacqueline J. H. Klooster); the “Archaic and Classical period” section is made up of three articles (we highlight the one by Anne-Sophie Martz and Hélène Wurmser on the house of Fourni of Delos); the “Medieval period” section consists of two articles (one of them, by Xanthie Argiris on the pottery from the Byzantine shipwreck off the island of Kasos); and the “Historiography” section consists of a single article by Dimitra Kokkinidoi and Marianna Nikolaidou on the history of women archaeologists in Greece, a valuable look at the contributions and vicissitudes of Greek women in the field of Archaeology. Concludes the volume with 24 reviews of various publications on the Archaeology of Greece from the Prehistory to the Modern period.
Finally, it should be noted that the obituary, written by Sophia Nomicos, of the German archaeologist Hans Lohmann (died in December 2023), an excellent researcher of the ancient settlement of the territory of Attica and Miletus, is also included.
