Museu de Arqueologia D. Diogo de Sousa. The Bühler-Brockhaus Donation. Masterpieces in the Collection of Greek, Etruscan and Roman Antiquities

Within the series Classica Instrvumenta-Monografias de História de Arte e Arqueologia of the Universidade de Coimbra, Prof. Dr. Rui Morais has just published the monograph Museu de Arqueologia D. Diogo de Sousa. The Bühler-Brockhaus Donation. Masterpieces in the Collection of Greek, Etruscan and Roman Antiquities. In 2021 the Bühler-Brockhaus Collection, made up of more than 300 archaeological objects (mostly Greek and Roman), was donated to the Museu de Arqueologia D. Diogo de Sousa in the Portuguese city of Braga (the ancient Roman Bracara Augusta).

Prof. Morais presents in this work a selection of the 36 masterpieces from this collection, with an excellent catalogue and study of each one and a high-quality graphic device. These pieces of art belong to the Greek, Etruscan and Roman cultures, with chronologies ranging from the second quarter of the 7th century BC to the end of the 3rd AC. Among the Greek objects, the magnificent Corinthian helmet made in Apulia (5th-4th centuries BC) and the various examples of Attic and Magna Graecia Black and Red Figure pottery stand out.

The publication, in a bilingual Portuguese/English edition, has been sponsored by the Fundação Bracara Augusta.
